A new very important initiative has recently been undertaken by Google with the aim of eliminating child pornography from the Internet. Its new technology will allow websites, organizations and relevant authorities to build a centralized database of all child pornography material they come across and then delete it.
All tagged photos in the database will no longer appear on web pages or in the search results of Google (and the rest of the engines) as a result of which no internet user can have access.
The development of this technology is expected to cost Google several million dollars and comes after pressure from the UK on all search engines to take action to more effectively filter and remove all or even a large percentage of content related to child pornography.
Google has been using pattern recognition technology to block child pornography since 2008, but its new initiative is the first concerted effort to effectively eradicate the phenomenon.
