On the northern side of Mount Pangaios, 7 km northeast of the municipality of Protis in the prefecture of Serres, is the old Monastery of the Ascension of the Savior from Byzantine times, at an altitude of approximately 930 meters.

It has a panoramic view of the plain of Serres and is surrounded by rich bushy and wooded vegetation. On the surrounding heights you can see old deserted hermitages, remnants of spiritual struggles of pious ascetics, as well as bastions of an ancient ruined castle.
